Review: Greenwich Park Horticultural Tour

Greenwich Park Revealed

We had glorious autumnal sunshine on Sunday 16th for the social visit to Greenwich Park flower garden.  The (free) one and a half hour tour by the Parks’ Helen Willis was excellent.  Helen was really knowledgeable and covered aspects of the parks history, its horticulture and wildlife and the wide-ranging planned improvements (Greenwich Park Revealed) which aims to not only restore parts of the park to the 17th century landscape, but also to make the park more ecologically sustainable and inclusive.  There are some amazing and unique trees in the flower garden arboretum, from the veteran sweet chestnuts (some nearly 400 years old) to the ‘fossil’ era trees such as the Ginko biloba and Dawn Redwood and exotics such as the Tulip trees, Shagbark Hickory and lovely maples.  We ended with coffee and chat at the café garden. You can undertake a self-guided tree walk.
