‘Young Plato’: how do you shift playground attitudes in Northern Ireland?
Important update: Originally we said that we’d show the film at the meeting, but since it is 100 minutes long and this would leave very little time for discussion, we’ve changed our mind. We’re now inviting you to view the film in your own time and then come to the meeting with plenty of time available to discuss its quality, its relevance and its value. You can read about how to watch the film online at the bottom of this post.
‘Young Plato’ is a documentary released last year about teaching philosophy to young boys at school in Northern Ireland, asking the question, how can you change a culture to break down partisan barriers and build peace?
The Guardian gave it 4 stars and said: “This engaging documentary follows a primary school head who uses classical thinkers to teach new ways of defusing violence.”
You can read more about it here.
If you’re interested in how the film was made there is a 20-minute interview with Kevin McArevey here
