Understanding Islam in Britain – who runs the mosques?
Innes Bowen is a BBC editor as well as the author of Medina in Birmingham, Najaf in Brent – Inside British Islam. Her book, written after many years of detailed research, takes an objective look at the structures and influences of Islam in Britain. This serves an important purpose for those of us who are not Muslims and might believe there to be uniformity among Muslims as a group. Innes’ book shows how wrong we are.
The journalist Peter Oborne said of Innes’ book: “I urge every commentator and politician who wants to open his or her mouth about British Islam to read this work. Bowen dispels a long list of myths…”
At this event, Innes will speak about some of the key themes that emerge from her book, before opening the discussion to the audience.
