Tracing the Tyburn
The Tyburn is one of the lost rivers of London. Originally flowing from Hampstead Heath to the Thames, the Tyburn was culverted in the 18th century. However, the presence of this river can still be seen in the streetscape and topography of the modern city. In this walk we’ll follow the course of the river from Regent’s Park, through Marylebone and Mayfair, across Green Park and on to Westminster. There will be plenty of stops to look at sites of historical and archaeological interest. The walk is approximately 3 miles in length. It will start at Great Portland Street tube station and finish at Westminster Bridge, after which we may call into a nearby pub or cafe.
