Walk for Dignity in Dying

Sevenoaks volunteers are organising a fundraising walk in the beautiful grounds of Kenward Place in Kent on Saturday 29 October.

Suzanne Jee is a member of Dignity in Dying who feels strongly that a change in the law is overdue. She has been a supporter of assisted dying since her father took his own life after a long battle with oesophageal cancer at the age of 60.

She told Kent Online in 2019: “He underwent a major operation, but the illness spread to his spine. He was in unbearable pain – painkillers simply didn’t work. It made me feel very angry, that he had to die alone.”

Suzanne points out that 200m people globally have access to an assisted death, including in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, parts of the United States and parts of Australia. In Britain, where 84% of the public support the choice of assisted dying for terminally ill adults, it is still illegal.

Up to a hundred people will be converging on Kenward Place at 11am to walk either 2, 5 or 7km distances. You are invited to support them by joining in and getting sponsors or making a donation. Kenward Place is in Yalding between Sevenoaks and Maidstone. The money will go to Dignity in Dying’s campaign for assisted death for the terminally ill.
