AGM: would you like to be more active in SELHuG?

A humanist group like SELHuG brings people together to explore life’s big questions – how to live and die, where to look for knowledge and meaning – and how to respond to pressing challenges like climate change and social inequality.

If you would like to play a part in what we do, whether to help us campaign on a single issue or be a committee member or post holder, please let us know, see details below.

There are currently five people on the committee: Sam Becker, Ann Pickering, Tony Brewer, Helen Warner and Hester Brown. We work in a cooperative and collaborative way and would be very happy to support anyone new to committee work.

What vacancies are there this year?

We are looking for a new Chair. If you can see yourself leading the group, please step forward. There is also room on the committee for members who have time to share the work of organising meetings and social events, writing posts and joining in national campaigns.

How do I nominate myself to stand for a post or join the committee?

Write a brief statement about yourself and why you want to stand, and send it to Hester Brown, Secretary, at selhuginfo@gmail.com no later than 7 days before the AGM, ie 30 June.

I would like to be involved in a less formal way

If you would like to be active in the group, please talk to Hester via selhuginfo@gmail.com – there are lots of single issues, campaigns, meetings, socials and fund-raising you could lead on or support.

Become a member now

If you are not already, please join SELHuG as a member. This will allow you to stand and vote at the AGM. Anyone who supports the aims of SELHuG (view the Constitution here) can become a member by paying £10 annually, £6 unwaged. Please make a bank transfer to the SELHuG account: 089299, 65748721 and put your name in the reference field, so we know it’s you!

Your membership helps us organise events and support two important charities

Membership subscriptions, along with second-hand book sales, allow us to keep monthly meeting contributions low and to support two charities: Action for Refugees in Lewisham (AFRIL) and the Uganda Humanist Schools Trust. Many thanks for your support.

In addition to agreeing the committee for next year, the AGM also has reports about our activities in the last year, into our finances and our reach online. If you want to know more and to contribute your thoughts into shaping the group, then please join in.
